Two pipe bombs were found on Walker Street in Manchester, TN on Wednesday the Manchester Times reported. Walker Street is about five miles from the Bonnaroo music festival. People in the surrounding area were told to evacuate but the investigation has not affected the festival.
The Tennessee Highway Patrol was assisting with the investigation, and local units were maintaining a 300-foot perimeter, a spokesperson for the agency said.
The activity was unrelated to Bonnaroo in any way, organizers said.
“As always, we remain in contact with local law enforcement throughout the festival and have a broad range of safety procedures in place, including car searches, CCTV cameras, mounted patrol, metal detectors, and canine patrols,” the festival said in a statement.
It is important for authorities and patrons to remember that bad guys don’t have to hit an events’ specific location to impact an event. Media and the police public affairs officers are notorious about downplaying issues like pipe bombs being found in the vicinity of an event instead of using the incident to build awareness in the public.
Sad but true.
