The third season of the FX network’s Emmy-nominated series “American Crime Story” will depict the 1990’s scandals that led to Bill Clinton’s impeachment hearings, and will be produced by Monica Lewinsky, Clinton’s intern who he infamously had an affair with.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, FX chairman John Landgraf explained: “This franchise re-examines some of the most complicated, polarizing stories in recent history in a way that is relevant, nuanced and entertaining. ‘Impeachment: American Crime Story’ will likewise explore the overlooked dimensions of the women who found themselves caught up in the scandal and political war that cast a long shadow over the Clinton presidency.”
But critics are concerned the timing of the show’s third season release, set to begin weeks before the 2020 election on September 27th 2020, will help Trump win in 2020. New York Magazine writer Mark Harris, for example, posted on Twitter about his problems with the timing. “Airing this during the final six weeks of the 2020 election is an abysmal idea. I’m looking forward to seeing it, and I hope FX reconsiders the timing.” he said in a series of tweets, “I’m going to be charitable and assume that all the people telling me that small things cannot possibly have an impact in the last month of an election unless it’s, like, really close were not born in 2016.”

There were many other critics of the show’s timing, too. Apparently, the belief seems to be when the American people are freshly reminded of history, they are more likely to vote for the Republican.
