Four recent travelers to Venezuela, who crowded funded their trip under the label of the Chicago Teachers Union (CTU) delegation, met with Venezuelan government officials, visited a commune and were featured in local media.
According to the Chicago Tribune, “They wrote online about wanting to connect with Venezuelan teachers, students and unionists, criticized U.S. economic sanctions against the South American nation and wrote admiringly of its socialism, its communes and high literacy rates.”
A resolution passed by the CTU House of Delegates condemns the Trump administration for “menacing pronouncements against the sovereign state of Venezuela by discrediting the result of the May 20, 2018, Venezuelan presidential election of Nicolás Maduro.”
“Both the resolution and the trip reflect the personal politics and world view of (CTU) leadership and their inner circle” Karen Moody said, a teacher and union member who did not go on this trip.
If all these people are following the regular leftist playbook, this Teachers Union delegation was most likely very organized and representative of the union executives’ mindsets. As the tactic goes, others typically condemn the trip to help lessen the impact of such overt actions in support of communism.
