Yesterday Navy SEAL Eddie Gallagher was found not guilty “on six of the most serious counts he was facing, including premeditated murder, willfully discharging a firearm to endanger human life, retaliation against members of his platoon for reporting his alleged actions, obstruction of justice and the attempted murders of two noncombatants” Fox News reported. That’s an awful lot to NOT be guilty of.
Then why is it the case that Gallagher’s “rank will be reduced” affecting both his pay and his benefits, and has to “pay $2,697 per month for four months?” It should be surprising to everyone that Gallagher is being punished so severely for minor charges after being found not guilty of murdering an ISIS fighter and having been held in jail (including solitary confinement) for quadruple the time that any of the lesser charges require.
However, what is not surprising is that this is just another example of leftist careerism inside the DOD JAG corp, and unfortunately Naval Special Warfare leadership.
Speaking earlier this morning on ‘Fox & Friends’ with his wife Andrea and his attorney, said media reports tried to frame him “as a criminal from the get-go…but we knew the truth the whole time…we knew I was innocent of these charges. I overcame it by having my strong wife with me the whole time and my legal team fighting for me.”
