Bill de Blasio Scores City Hall Favor for Hotel Union

This is exactly how communists run governments.

New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio has directed the Department of City Planning to study mandatory permits for all new hotels across the city, which would give extreme leverage to the Hotel Trades Council, a union that endorsed de Blasio after his crackdown on Airbnb.

“At a minimum, it creates the appearance of impropriety and illegality,” said the head of good government group Common Cause, Susan Lerner. “The mayor keeps setting up situations that beg for a pay-to-play interpretation.”

According to the New York Post, “Special permitting would require any developer seeking to build a new hotel to go through an exhaustive review process, including community board recommendations and City Council approval, before they could start construction, even if the land is already zoned for commercial and hotel uses.”

This is textbook corporatism. Legislating protections to keep certain businesses at the top of the market is tyranny. This is exactly how communists run governments. De Blasio should be in jail instead of City Hall!
